In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.
The American Legion Auxiliary adheres to the following purposes:
While we are dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic we are holding many of our meetings through video conferencing. For those of us not familiar with these platforms, the following list of "how to" videos may be useful:
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each of you for supporting and trusting me to serve as your next President of ALA Unit 164. Running unopposed is an advantage!
On a more serious note I would like to recognize 2 of our founding officers for their continued hard-work and dedication since the inception of this Unit 4 years ago, Gillian Woodstrom, our President and Patricia Castro, our 1st Vice President.
Patricia has been responsible for membership, and stepped up to support the many programs and activities we have had though the years. From marching in parades, hosting pot luck dinners, serving as a District 22 chairperson, cooking at Veterans Breakfast, securing sponsorships for Wreaths, whatever the cause she has been there! And yes we grew our membership from the founding 10 to 28…thank you Patricia for all you have done! She will be a member-at-large to help keep me on course.
I am not sure how to thank Gil for all her leadership and dedication in the growth of this Unit. She has a great sense of knowing when to challenge or pull back, when to speak or be silent (not often), when to do or when to delegate, and the list could go on. Again, she is always someone we could count on to show up and work no matter the occasion. She was also a great listener for all, empathetic, compassionate and understanding. And of course the amazing British accent seemed as if the "Queen" was holding court at any meeting she conducted, always very proper. Thank you Gillian… big shoes to fill.
Over the past four years it has been an honor to be a part of this organization, to work and get to know each of you. I look forward to our continued growth in the year to come, to meet challenges and exceed expectations. I have an amazing team of women who have stepped up to serve with me as your officers. We ask your help in volunteering however you can … on a committee or even as a chairperson. Come with your ideas… bring your family and friends to join with us… help support our Legion Family and our Veterans. Together we will have another amazing year. You are appreciated!
